An unlikely hero
By Jason Franklin
Diminishing moments of no confidence,
Every step I take,
Every thought I make is positive,
The sun sets upon her silky blonde mane as if Zeus himself wanted to create perfection,
Her smile weakens the most dark of hate and brightens the day as its daily labor,
Her eyes shade blue and resemble the oceans on a cloudless summer day,
Her legs are as sweet as fresh grown apples applying brilliance,
I slowly graze towards her desk to grace the presence of an angel,
Her eyes slowly raise and lock with mine as time halts,
She raises her lips revealing diamonds,
This was my chance,
This was the one-day where I could stand tall as an equal to a king,
Words were prevented from mumbling,
I concentrated on everything to be said,
“Will you grace me with your presence tonight?”
As I awaited an answer my hands clinched, shaking endlessly,
Thoughts soaring in and out of my mind,
“Mistake”, “Fool”, “Idiot”,
It was time to face an answer that I either awaited my entire life,
Or face the cruel act of reality,
Thus tears grew in my simple honest eyes,
With a slight but needed pause she answered soothing my ears like Mother Nature,
“I would love too…”
Years of misery ended with a simple statement from a goddess,
A coward lives and dies comfortably,
But true happiness is never attained without risk…
